Listen to your inner self.
Every one has a voice in his mind after he undergoes his thought. The question is are you paying attention to it? The voice is none other than the portrayal of your thought which most adults tend to repress it. The inner voice is one of the important tools that help you to self realize and help you to easily remove negative emotions. Its quite simple, not to get complicated though, but rather just to listen the voice carefully and analyze it. The thoughts are quite varied and it is all about yourself or of another person. Its a mixture of good and bad things that creeps up normally after every incident. So ask yourself regarding why such questions creep into your mind and understand it before you react. And you be aware of the thought you get. The moment you are aware of your thoughts you would surely avoid your emotion to react.
Take the time to listen to this voice. Do not dismiss it or be afraid of it. Some of the thoughts may be of things that you do not like about yourself or of traits that you have repressed. Ask yourself, why do you hate these traits? Is it because society told you that they are not worthwhile? Well, that is not a good reason. Adjusting our personality and behavior to accommodate others usually comes at our own personal expense. While we might not publicly voice our displeasure our internal voice rarely stays quiet.
Start a journal.
Keeping a journel is great way to keep track of your thoughts, emotions and can be used as a tool to process the events that happen in our daily lives. Having our most private thoughts written down and revisiting them at a later date can give greater clarity to our internal conflicts, desires, fears and regrets.
Schedule Some Alone Time
To be able to connect with your true self requires that you are in a healthy place emotionally. So it is important for you to block out some time during the week for yourself. You need to make sure that you are by yourself without any distractions. Find a quiet place and use this time to work on yourself. Whether it is time to just unwind, meditate or do something that you enjoy.
Learn to Meditate
| Allowing yourself to quiet your mind is important. Stilling the mind is not just another mental exercise. It is a change of attention. Meditation is focusing on the inner world and away from the physical and mental world. When the mind is silent, when all the thoughts, feelings, perceptions and memories have fallen away, then what remains is the essence of self. What we then find is not a sense of "I am this" or "I am that;" but just "I am". |
Identify Your Core Values
To be able to connect with your true self you need to be aware of what your core values are. This is represented by characteristics or qualaties that you value most. This may be a little tricky to do. One exercise that may help to document your core values is to make a list of 10 people that you lookup to and next to each person list all the qualities you admire most in them. Once you have listed the qualities you value the most, you will be able to focus on growing them within yourself.
Respect The Integrity Of Your Core Values
There are many situations when doing something conflicts with your Core Values. Get into the habit of analyzing such situations. Quite often we conflict with our Core Values for the sake of looking good or making some progress. That’s why it is very important to always make sure you know if such a sacrifice is really necessary. If it’s something not important, you should never conflict with yourself, because in many situations you’re acting in a certain way simply because of the situation you’re in. What happens then is that the situation will change, while you will be left on your own with your thoughts and conflicts. Maintain your integrity - many problems are not worth the self-conflicts you’re getting into.
Face Your Fears
Many of us use fear as an excuse to not try new things, go for what we truely desire or take risks that are necessary for success. The fear of failing, getting hurt or even succeeding prevents us from fully realizing our dreams. Fear is a natural instinct, we’re wired to feel fear whenever we’re stepping into unfamiliar territory. To be able to progress in our life and get closer to our true destiny we need to have the courage to face our fears. Sometimes our fear is pointing us to exactly what’s most important to us and what we love most.
Yourself Self-Searching Questions.
A good exercise is to ask your self soul searching questions. These are hypothetical questions that do not take into account any real world obstacles that you face; instead the answers to these questions may help illuminate the path to your true desires. Some good questions to ask are "If I had only one year left to live I would ...", "If I did not have to worry about money I would spend my time doing ...", "If I could do my life over I would do ...."
Do Something Different
Too many of us live a life of routine. We maintain the same daily schedule and as a result of living a life of repetition we fail to develop new skills or grow in any meaningful way. Having new experiences is great way to learn new things about ourselves. Open yourself up to as many new possibilities as you possibly can and pay attention to your reactions. You will be surprised by what interests or engages you.
Stop Following The Crowd
The world that we live in is extremely structured with everyone knowing their role and place in society. The problem with following the crowd is that you are not being true to yourself, you are allowing yourself to be assimilated into a larger group. As a result your life is no longer a reflection of who you are but a reflection of what society thinks it should be for you.
